There aren’t enough words to say just how awesome 2012 has been. If you can read this… THANK YOU for being part of it. In one way or another, my life is forever changed, thanks to you. And one thing this incredible city has taught me is that nothing ever remains the same, and not everyone is meant to stay. So here’s to making the most of every little bit we have, every single day. I still have an epic year-end to look forward to, but I’m already so excited… I see more good things up ahead. To 2013!

At 5am today I found myself breaking numerous traffic rules and putting the 100kph in 10seconds function of the car to use. My friend who was sleeping over had allergic reactions, she passed out and wasn’t responding anymore. I’ m so thankful we all get to live another day. It was close but it’s a friendly reminder that the clock is ticking and that we all need to get a move on. Thank You because good things still happen.

I was just talking about cycling to and from my new place of work and here we are! The cool folks at Walmart Asia gave me a bike as a farewell present.

Good news - good things come in the mail.

The last few months have been insane with ups and downs.
With so much back log of amazing good luck, so much good news, this one I just can’t contain.

After two years of floating about in Hong Kong, it’s looking like I’m staying.

To start a new job.
To start riding a bike in the city.
To end.
To start.

To float a bit more.

EMMANUEL T. SANTOS. He’s one of the top 50 photographers in the world according to Magnum photos. He is a Filipino based in Australia and has mentored Ashley Gilbertson who is now one of the top War photographers today. I would list down all Mannix’s achievements here, but I’ll just tell you to check out his website because there’s a lot! Haha!

Armi introduced me to him when we went to Kiko Escora’s exhibit. Even though I wasl already familiar with his work, I couldn’t get the courage to talk to him at length. I didn’t know what to say anyway (I’m not worthy! LOL) Good thing there were so many exhibits going on in Manila and by our third stop in Manila Contemporary, I went up to him and told him who I was and what I have been ‘trying’ to do for the past few years.

He told me he’s been published by Rolling Stone Magazine back in the day and has taken photos of Bowie and Santana. I love this set he did with “One Giant Step” (he actually brought that astronaut suit here in Manila and took photos in Sagada).

In the short while we spoke, there was so many things I learned and I wouldn’t be able to say everything he said clearly because he said it best. In the end, you know that it was a good conversation when you take home a great feeling of being brave enough to get close, gain trust and shoot from the heart.

Typical formula for a major heartache. Haha. I struggle with that every now and then when you open up yourself behind the lens.

I’ve always known what I had to do, but sometimes there are just people you meet along the way who happen to be there to remind you and also give you a different ‘take’ on things. Perspective is the one thing that people don’t often consider changing, even in real life situations. We’re always so bent on looking at things the way we see it, we never consider the thought of being someone else for a change and looking at it from that ‘angle’.

I’m so lucky to talk to someone who’s been through it all and has achieved so much that with a lot of heart & a lot of love, you can eventually get to where you want to go.

What I’ve achieved is only an extremely small part of the grand scheme of possibilities.

I know I’ve got a long way to go, so I’m off to get my voice back (literally & figuratively).

A wedding invite inspired these beautifully written verses; an old frame found in the street where I live right before Chinese New Year finally found what it’s meant for.

Leaving Saatchi was probably the worst turn I’d ever made…but new adventures followed and were captured through this lens.

3. TS-808, 2006
Epic year this was. I won a trip to Hollywood for myself and two best friends, and we chanced upon a green tag weekend sale at Guitar Center. Talk about incredibly good luck…but wait, there’s even more to this story.

4. T-light birthday happiness, 2011
Probably the most perfect birthday dinner of my life so far. Flowers, birthday cards, cake, random red mexican hats, Valentine’s day heart shaped balloons, a whole room to ourselves, great Indian cuisine and lots of wine, amazing friends and a long night of stories and laughter.

5. Chad Smith’s drum stick, 2011
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hong Kong, front row, in front of Flea. And yes, that’s a drum stick Chad used at the show. Another story with details I would love to tell.
